About Church

Ebenezer baptist church was founded by First Baptist Church, Mafoluku on 8th August 1976. A motion to establish a preaching station moved during the Annual Youth Week in June 1976 later came to reality afer it was adopted and the Church members sent members of the Youth of F.B.C Mafoluku to survey a suitable location to establish the Church.

The following people were given the task.

  1. Deacon S.A Alafia the leader F.B.C,Mafoluku.
  2. Micheal Adebayo Akinloye (Late) the Youth Pastor, that year
  3. Dele Tela – Youth President that year.

It was a memorable acheivement when their efforts were crowned with success, when Pa.  David Olajide of No 59, Abolaji Street, willingly surrendered his sitting room to start the preaching station which metamorphosed  to E.B.C, Mafoluku today.

The  first service was held at the above address on 8th August, 1976 with the following ambassadors from the First Baptist Church, Mafoluku:

  1. Micheal Adebayo Akinloye as the Church Leader.
  2. Bro E.O Adebunmi as the Church Secretary
  3. Micheal Babatunde Ojewale as the Sunday School Superintendent
  4. Inaolaji Assistant Sunday School Superintendent
  5. Isaiah Olaleye as the Choir Director
  6. Jonathan Olusegun Isola as the Assistant Choir Director

These officers with some other members from the F.B.C, Mafoluku and totaling seventeen worshipped with seven new members from the vicinity. The total number of worshippers being twenty four. Of the seven new members, a new baby boy was born to the family of Mr. And Mrs. C.A. Ikujini On 8th August, 1976.

The church was originally named Central Baptist Church, Ewutuntun due to her location, and it was under the Gospel Baptist Mission being coordinated by Reverend E.A. Aliade. The urge to join the Nigerian Baptist Convention and the adoption of the same by the Mother Church, Fbc, Mafoluku culminated into the church becoming a full – fledged Baptist Church under the Nigerian Baptist Convention.

In a bid to join Irepodun Baptist Associatioon, Lagos it was discovered that a church in that association bore the same name, Central Baptist Church Ebute Metta. It was after a prayerful moment and consideration that the name “Ebenezer Baptist Church” was finally adopted.

CHURCH GROWTH

As time went on Pa Olajide decided to offer an empty land in front of his building to erect a temporary church, when his parlour could no longer contain worshippers.

Later, efforts were made to acquire land for a permanent site. There were some difficulties at the initial stage, but due to the assistance and commitment of Deacon Samuel A. Oke of First Baptist Church,Oshodi, he present location of the Church became a reality in June 1978.

Since then, the Church has been experiencing rapid growth numerically and infastructural development commenced in earnest.

INFRASTRUCTRAL DEVELOPMENT

The Church made frantic efforts at building a modest worship hall and pastorium which were gradually developed over time. The Church now has a befitting church auditorium, a pastorium and modest equipment for Minisrty work, which we hope to improve upon.

CHURCH EFFORT AT EVANGELISM

The  main focus of the Church is Evangelism. This has resulted in the following.

  1. Preaching Stations Established by the Church
  2. Oke Afa Estate Baptist Church (13th April 1986)
  3. Ebenezer Baptist Church, Akintan, Abule Egba (12th August 1990)
  4. Ebenezer Baptist Church, Agoro (5th January 2008)
  5. Ebenezer Baptist Church, Iju Otta (26th October 2013)
  6. Pastors Produced from the Church.

    In answer to the great commission, a number of the youths in the church  responded to the call.

      They are:

      After the retirement of Rev. M.A.A. Adeleke in 2012, Dn. S.O. Kehinde was appointed leader and served until 1st March 2015, when the current Pastor, Rev. Emmanuel Yinka Orisajo took over the leadership of the church.
