About Church

The Beginning

To the glory of God the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost and for the benefit of mankind, New Glory Baptist Church was established in 1974. The first Worship service of the Church was held at Mr. A. A. Agboola’s residence, 4, Ogundeji Street, Mafoluku (now 34, Airport Road, Mafoluku) on Sunday, January 13, 1974 with seven (7) members in attendance (four men and three women). Mr Agboola was an active member of Shomolu Baptist church who felt the need for a  local Church in Mafoluku area after relocating to the area. The church was planted by Shomolu Baptist Church.

The Church worship services continued at the family’s residence for two months.  The membership increased by 2 with the attendance of Omolara and Wuraola Sholere. Inspired by their attendance, the mother of these young women (Mrs.Sholere) gave the church a piece of land located at 24, Old Ewu Road for temporary use. The mother Church built a temporary place of worship on the land for the new church. The church worshipped at this temporary location for about four (4) years.

Change of Name

In 1989 the name of the church was changed from Mafoluku Baptist church to Ajao Estate Baptist Church and became New Glory Baptist Church Ajao Estate in  2001.

A Place of Worship (First Relocation)

In the process of time, the church began to face series of accommodation problems at the temporary site which resulted in the need to acquire a permanent site for the church. The effort of Deacon Olujomoye and Mr. A. A. Agboola led the church in identifying a piece of land for the Church’s first permanent site within Mafoluku Village, which later became Ajao Estate, now 7, Church Close, Ajao Estate. The church then appealed to the mother church for financial assistance and received the sum of N1,000 (one thousand naira only). The land was acquired for N1,600 (one thousand and six hundred naira only) on the 3rd of December, 1977.

The first Worship service was held on the piece of land on 1st December, 1977. It was dedicated to  God on that day by Deacon Alafia. The first Worship service was conducted by late Mr. A. A. Adeshile and the Pastor of Ibuowo Baptist Church Lagos. The first church Organ was bought in 1988 while the first organist was  Mr E.O Oguntolu (now Chief). Bro Isaac and Mr Oguntolu were sent for training on how to play the organ. Chief Oguntolu is still the Church Organist.

Church Organisation

The Church was organized on the October 30, 1993 at 7, Church Close, Ajao Estste, Lagos. The number of members of the church in 1988 was over 50 regular  worshippers. The number rose to over 200 regular worshippers before the Organization of the Church in 1993. The story of the church cannot be complete without paying tribute to the effort of Mr. A.A Agboola, Deacon Olujomoye, Mr. Anthony Dare, Mr Amos Odejayi and Mr. A.A Popoola. The foundation of the second church auditorium was laid to the glory of God on 13th February 1993 by Deacon Olawoore of Shomolu Baptist Church.
